Winton to Hughenden

Camped at the Long Waterhole, outside Winton, we enjoyed the cooler weather. Driving into this popular camp area, it was obvious that the winter hoards were starting to arrive. Along line of caravans and camper trailers greeted us along the area close to the water hole. Being still a bit soft after the rain the regon had recently enjoyed, most had, sensibly, staid on the higher ground. Not wanting to be amongst the crowd, we made our way down the track a comfortable distance and were by ourselves. We had got word that our friends from Brisbane were traveling through and would meet us here. I had bought some filters and oli for Ned so while we waited I did a service on the motor. Two days later they turned up. They were on their way to Alice, by way of the Plenty Hwy.

While we were there, a young fella with a ute and trailer came round selling boxes of firewood, we bought some as there was none to be seen around the area. This we put to good use with a cook up of corned beef one night and our friends cooked a lamb shoulder one night as well. We staid for a few days and caught up on each others travels, ate and laughed.

After topping up with what we needed, it was on the road again, to Hughenden to the north.
