Our journey continues.
On our way from the Riverlands of S.A. North to Akaroola where we shouted ourselves to a meal and campsite, we headed north again, first stopping at Balcanoona ranger station where you can get water and have a hot shower.
Freshened up and full of water again the road north looked appealing, small, lonely and dusty. Came to an intersection about 90ks up, left to a small track past Moolawatana station and on till you hit the Strzelecki track some 170ks west or northward on the larger road to hit the strzelecki. We chose the former.
The track varied from small two wheel tracks and rough to wider graded sections. Winding its way through small hillocks and larger jagged rock formations. Ned (the truck) took his time, averaging about 20kph just the way we like it.
Somewhere up the track a creek bed appeared. On further investigation it looked like a good camp spot, so up the creek bed we went. A little way up we found a great spot and settled in for the rest of the day and night.
This was Hamilton Creek, and a short walk up the creek bed revealed a beautiful waterhole. Terrapinna waterhole is spring fed from way underground making it a permanent water source. Such an oasis in a harsh environment, so lucky to have stumbled upon it.
Had the place to ourselves so stayed a couple of days and took advantage of the water and did some washing while there.
