Hi all,

Gordon dam, a huge engineering feat, we rocked up in time to see some people absail down the face of the dam. Must be a real rush of adrenaline. Then headed for Scotts Peak Dam, the furthest southwest we can go by road. On the way we passed Mt. Eliza, slowly visiting all the kids, just have to find a Katie and Nat.

Camped at a picnic area off the road with a fireplace in the shelter, Din loved it as the weather was cold again, down to 5 degrees in the morning. Was about 9:00am in the photo.

  2. Wow -what a Damned Dam!! They were determined to "Damn" SOMEthing - & so they certainly have!! Abseiling down that would be such an incredible rush...Don't think I'll try it just today. ALL the pix have been awesome, guys - thanks so much for sharing them with us...it's almost like 'having a life & seeing it through your eyes', which is pretty special! Where DID yas get those rocks Din sent my a photo of??? I just LUV pretty rocks - of ANY kind!! I couldn't know for sure but U quite an array there, mostly quartz including what looks like a nice large nugget of eithrr Rose or Cherry quartz, wot maybe howlite (or turquoise) and sum really pretty agates! I hope yas found a few more as well? They'd make a gorgeous necklace &//or bravelet, Din! Oooh ... I can assist you ith that when yas get back! IF we can EVER tempt U back to the Mainland, LOL - and that's not looking very promising just now as yas are having too much fun in the most amazing svenery!! I know you'll enjoy your time in Hobart, and even more further South, especially Port Arthur and surrounds...it's so hard to imagine one of the worst penal colinies in the esrly history of settlement could exist such a magnificent setting!! Van Diemans was a practical death sentence before the convicted prisoner had one foot on the transport ship, and fesred above all others, save perhaps Norgolk is, in terms of severity of punishment, and in complete and utter isolation...So even if they COULD escape...WHERE were they going to go? It's so peaceful &now that if it weren't for the ruins it would B impossible to believe the daily horrors of such a cruel and terrifying regime could have existed right there amongst such natural and pristine beauty. So I'm particularly looking forward to seeing as many pics as Garry can upload of Port Arthurbecause for me it's only such long fistant memories of it I have. Extra HUGE thanks, and I really hope yas enjoy it, as unsettling as I remember it can be...as I recall, getting there was half the fun, and the picnic basket that always accompanied us was a huge attraction, LOL. Can't wait to see the next few days' blogs! Luv always, Johnnie
