Hi all,

Still at lake King William, doing last of the washing while we have good weather and water. Lovely day yesterday, bit cloudy and cold today. Give the old wood stove another workout. Sorry to leave it behind, Din wants to load it up but we have enough weight already.

Have to go and put some water on for showers, bye for now.

Hi all,

Gone as far south down the west coast as roads will allow. From Reece dam to Zeehan with stops along the way at Granville Harbour and Trial harbour where we camped out on the cliffs, bit windy but great views. Down to Strahan and Macquarie heads, great sunset over the water. Now out through Queenstown and a stop off at Lake Burbury.

Wednesday, now west of Queenstown at lake King William near Derwent Bridge, pulled up and had a look around, found a little wood stove thing in the bush, so dragged it over and lit up a fire in it.

Din says she feels like she’s at home. A hot shower tonight. Will hang about for a couple of days and do some washing etc.

Talk soon.

Hi all,

Just wound our way down from Waratah to Corinna back close to the west coast. Sitting next to the Reece dam, with a hydro power station at its base. Woke up this morning with a dense mist over the water. Will make our way down to Zeehan, probably with a few detours along the way.

Crossed the Pieman river by the barge, it can carry 6ton, lucky we weigh 5 ton as it’s the only way to cross. Was a fire not far away and could see helicopters water bombing it over the river, but they assured us it was heading the other way. Anyway we made it.

Saturday arvo, can see smoke plume in the distance over the hill, next thing, a chopper came over the hill and hovered over the lake dipping it’s bucket into the water, filled up and headed off again.

Sunday morning, fire in the distance seems to have died out, clear sky all around. Will hang about today and maybe move on tomorrow. No service here maybe further on.

Hi all,

On the move again, had a couple of days at elsewhere and stinking beach, not a smell in sight.

Now heading down the Midwest and on to Waratah and try to get to Corinna back on the coast.

Then down to Queenstown and beyond.

Been doing  forestry roads and tracks we find, only had to turn back a couple of times because of blocked road or it just ran out. Magical country, like a huge Eungella, excuse the spelling. Camped up at Heller Gorge today. Lots of water so boiled the pot for a hot shower and cooking tea on the coals.

Hi all,

Well Australia Day and what better way to celebrate it than getting the coals ready, putting the roast pork on, then a leisurely stroll down the beach on the wild and untamed west Tasmanian coast, back in time to put the vegetables on and relax.

Great roast meal out of the camp oven. Been out of signal for a couple of days. At campsite called camp Elsewhere, you know when they say it’s going to be overcast here today but fine elsewhere, well we finally went there. Will head to Stinking Beach in the next day or so, can’t wait😊

Then we can go as far as Temma down the west coast, then the road is cut by a landslide, so we will have to go back to Smithton to continue.

Good chance to resupply and refuel. Will meet up with the west coast again sooner or later.

Hi all,

End of the day and just turned the corner and heading down the west coast. Sitting on a headland watching some surfers riding waves, water is freezing, they must be keen.
Will have to go find a camp for the night. If it’s a good one we might stay a couple of days.

northwest tass

Hi all,

Still on the northwest coast. Went out to rocky cape national park today, beautiful spot but no camping sings everywhere. They have a small group of houses and a new one being built near a beach, nobody about so we are parked in their front yard looking like a delivery truck. Good camp for the night.

some nice camp spots

toby would love this sandpit
